寒假的一天， 海狸太太起了个大早，她想做一顿别出新意的食物。

Mrs. Beaver got up early for the winter holiday.
 She wanted to make a special treat.

她将面粉，白糖和水一起混合在碗里。

She mixed some flour, sugar, 
and water in a bowl.

她接着加入油，鸡蛋，牛奶和黄油。

She added oil, eggs, milk,
and butter.

She rolled the dough 
into a big ball.

She cooked the dough in hot
oil to make bread.

She put the bread on a rock
outside to cool.

Mr. Beaver was busy chewing

乌鸦乔停坐在商场边长长的墙上。

Joe Crow sat on a long wall by the mall.
 He opened his beak to caw.
 But all he could do was peep.

All who walked by looked at Joe.
 They smiled.
 “That crow has a flaw,” they said.
 “He does not know how to caw.”

“It is not that I cannot caw,” thought Joe Crow.
 “Maw and Paw did not teach me to caw.”

Joe’s paw and maw were peeping crows, too.
 They did not know how to teach him.
 They were never taught how to caw.

每天天一亮，所有的乌鸦停坐

但他们只是吱吱叫。
所有的乌鸦取笑他们。

At dawn each day, all the crows sat 
 on a lawn to caw.
 Joe and his maw and paw came, too.
 But they just peeped.
 All the crows made fun of them.

于是乌鸦乔寻找可以教他的人，
但是没有人教他。
所以他回了家，爬上了他的稻草床。

Joe Crow looked for someone to teach him, 
 but no one taught him.
 So he went home and got into his bed of straw.

那天晚上，乔梦见
有人教他如何说话。
当他醒来时，乔跟他的爸爸妈妈说了他的梦。
“我可以说话了，”他说。

That night, Joe dreamed that 
 someone taught him how to talk.
 When he woke up, Joe told his maw and paw about the dream.
 “I could talk,” he said.

So Joe Crow and his maw and paw
 went to school to be taught how to talk.
 It was much better to talk than to caw.

莫拿着一根鱼竿，
去树林里的小溪边钓鱼。

Moe took a fishing pole and went to the brook in the woods to fish.

“我想要钓到一条大鱼，
那我就能把它煮了吃掉，”他说。

“I want to hook a good fish 
 that I can cook and eat,”he said.

莫感觉到钩子上有东西拉着。
他拉着鱼线。
可是，拉出来了一只蓝色的鞋。

Moe felt a tug on the hook.
 He pulled on the line.
 Out came a blue shoe.

“看看它，”他说道：
“这只鞋不错，
可是我不能煮一只鞋吃。”

“Look at that,” he said.
 “It is a nice shoe, 
 but I cannot cook a shoe.”

莫把鞋从线上拿下来。
他又把鱼线扔回到小溪里。
他感觉到钩子上有东西拉着。
结果，他拉上来了另一只鞋子。

Moe took the shoe off the line.
 He tossed the line back in the brook.
 He felt a tug on the hook.
 He pulled up another shoe.

很快就到晚上了。
“我该回家了,”他伤心地说。
“我今天运气不好。我没法煮鱼吃了。”

Soon it was night.
 “I should go home,” he said sadly.
 “I had no luck. I have no fish to cook.”

莫看见一个男人坐在灌木丛边。
那人脚上沾满了烟灰。
他身边有一桶鱼。

Moe saw a man sitting by a bush.
 The man had soot on his feet.
 He had a pail of fish beside him.

“你的桶里装满了鱼，”莫说：
“我希望我也能有一桶鱼。”

“Your pail is full of fish,”Moe said.
 “I wish I had a pail of fish.”

“你的鞋子看起来很漂亮，”那个人说：
“我希望我每只脚都能有一只鞋。”

“Your shoes look nice,” said the man.
 “I wish I could have a shoe for each foot.”

“我想跟你做比交易，”莫说：
“我把我的鞋给你，
你把你的鱼给我。”

“I will trade with you,”Moe said.
 “I will give you my shoes,
 and you will give me your fish.”

“那主意不错，”那人说道。
莫把鱼，和那个人带到了他家里。

“That will be good,”said the man.
 Moe took the fish and the man to his home.

Moe got out his cook book.
 He cooked the fish on a wood stove.
 Moe and the man sat down
